Ive been wanting a green tree python for a while and have done alot of research on them. Does anyone have one, if so post pics. Also what species are better the gtp, or the emerald tree boa? Does anyone have any other information that i should know? Also, where should i get one, whats a good price, and how do i pick the healthiest one when purchasing.

Get one from Kingsnake.com classifieds! You’ll find a trustworthy breeder there who you can talk to over email and ask your questions.

Both species are virtually the same, but I would get the GTP!

I have over 30 green tree pythons, and an adult pair that just produced baby Emerald Basin Tree boas. The requirements are very similar between the species, but there are some differences.

In my personal opinion, GTP’s are easier overall to care for. Their metabolism is a bit faster than the Emmies and you must be very careful to feed proper sized meals for the Emmies and not too often.

KS ads are not generally the best place to purchase either type of arboreal species. You will find a lot of dealers/resellers offering babies that are farmed imports, quite often they are not established eaters, may have intestinal parasites and could have compromised kidney function from being kept without water for extended periods of time while in holding tanks waiting for shipment, etc.

For either species, I can’t recommend highly enough to purchase a captive born and bred baby/sub adult. Many breeders are selling non designer type, but very nicely bred babies for prices that are very close to the import prices. By purchasing from a reputable breeder you will have access to someone that will be there for you to answer any questions you may have along the way. Brokers just won’t have the time to share in general...... they want your money, not your friendship.

You can get nice cbb GTP’s for around $500 and up, sometimes even a little lower. You will get a snake that is just as easy to keep and hardy as most any other species. It is not hard to keep these guys if you purchase healthy ones to start with.

I tried posting links to the two premeir forums on the net for green tree pythons and they were rejected by the message board here. If you email me I will be more than happy to forward the links where you can find the GTP forums along with the classified ads by private breeders.

Yes, KS ads CAN be bad unless you know what to look out for...I would never buy from a dealer that sells masses of snakes, like hundreds at a time, because they are most likely unhealthy farm imports and such.....You have to look for private breeders who only breed a few species and have personally hand selected the parents and bred them...I got my BRB from a private breeder who breeds just Blood Pythons, Jungle Carpet Pythons, and Brazilian Rainbow Boas...About 4 litters in total at the time. My BRB is healthy and is doing great.

So look only for private breeders. Not mass producers.
