Some info from the pros MZ66 If I had an eight foot black rat snake, first of all, I’d be pretty amazed, since that’s only a few inches less than the world record for the species. Six footers are average, but seven footers are not. I’d go like 4X2X2 for a six footer (even one a little bigger would be fine in that), and in the event that I actually did have an eight footer I’d go at least five feet long, about three feet high, and about two and half wide, since I’d still want the cage to fit through doorways.

Some info from the pros MZ66 something that large would get as large a cage as I could afford to build/buy. They love to climb and are pretty active so I would give it all the room I could to do just that!! I would make a cage that was more on the tall side but still at least 5 feet long. It would about the size of an old fashioned wordrobe.......5 ft long, 3 wide and about 6-7 ft tall. But thats just me.

Some info from the pros MZ66 Seeing it climb vertically in that would be pretty impressive...
It’s conversations like this that make me want a Spilotes.

Some info from the pros MZ66 Oops. Sorry for the slow response. I was thinking of Spilotes pullatus. The Latin American chicken snakes, often also refered to as rat snakes. They can grow into the teens, but usually are smaller of course, although still BIG colubrids. Very arboreal and very active.
