I need help
I have a luestic rat snake I have had for two years. She has been eating live mice for a while but for the past month when I feed her she will not eat. The last time I put the mouse in her cage she ignored it for a few days and then killed it but did not eat it. I recently feed her again and she just ignores the mouse. I don’t know what to do< I am so scared she is sick. Can anyone give me any information as what they think is going on and what I can do to help my Allie( my snake) . THANKS FOR ANY HELP!!!

I need help Captive snakes will occasionally go off food for extended periods of time. Its nothing to worry about unless your snake starts to physically lose weight. Going by your statement you say you are leaving live prey in the viv for a few days at a time. If you are doing this your snake is in greater danger form the live mouse than what it is from not eating. Never leave a live mouse unattended with your snake

I need help I totally agree with Fergie, some snakes in captivity have been know to not eat for up to 6 months when full grown and if your lucy’s 2 years old it should be almost full grown, what kind of feeding sch do you have your lucy on? and what are your temp’s in the setup? Also in some cases snakes that might be over fed have stopped eatting because of being over weight, all things considered tho you should take some pic’s of your snake and enclosure and post’em so we can get a better idea of the condition of your snake ect :P

I need help Thank you for the information, I have been leaving the mouse in hoping that she would eat but then she will kill it and not eat it. I should put the mouse in and if she does not eat it right away take it back out? HOw will I know when she wants to start eating again ? I have been feeding her a mouse every two weeks. The temp I keep in the 80 degree range. Thanks again for the information, Allie was something my fiance’ just had to have and now I have gained full responsiblity for her and am very attached but get most of my information from care off the web, so I really appreciate this site. Thanks again.

I need help I would just recommend wait atleast 1 full feeding period before feeding her again, so miss the next feeding then feed her again in 2 weeks, she might just not be hungry snakes are picky sometimes and they just need a little encouragement from their owners :)
