New rat snake I already have a normal female black rat, but I got this little boy today, he’s a leucistic black rat snake. He’s an ’07, and mean as hell, true to his name. I was having issues with taking good pics of him because he’s white, so I messed up my camera settings and they turned out blue. I promise for better pictures later, but I didn’t want to stress him out any further. As you can see, I was being a baby and put my hand in my sweater because I didn’t want him to bite me, because he was lunging with his mouth wide open. I have been looking for one of these, for over a year, without the "googly eyes", so I’m glad I finally found a normal eyed one.
Meet Lucien....his name is French, and means light:

sorry about this blurry one, but you can see how his head flattens out when he’s mad:

New rat snake Leucy Texas rats are the most popular rat snake morph out therefor they are breed by LOTS of people wich makes their prices low. Sorta like amel corn snakes. Leucy black rats are not as common therefor the higher price.

New rat snake Thanks :)
That makes sense, then. I got mine for $49 because it was available at the local store, but I have never seen one at a show. I saw one online for $100. Do they carry the bug eyed trait as well?

New rat snake The bug eyed trait comes from too much inbreeding in order to mass produce Leucy Texas Rats so to make as much money as possible. I believe that those who breed the black rats are a little more carefull about inbreeding and seem to be the type of crowd that cares more for the wellfare of the snake than making the buck. The bug eyed trait could be bred out of the Texas rats if people would just breed them back to normals and create het leucys but they want to produce clutches of all white snakes so one one does it.
For $49 I would be skeptical about it being a black rat. Are you sure it’s not a Texas rat labeled wrong. Honestly I’m not sure how to tell the difference.

New rat snake I made sure because I asked her specifically. I wondered if it was a Texas rat because you don’t see the leucy blacks often. She assured me that it wasn’t a Texas. She has a good breeder from Jersey that she gets her snakes from. I think the difference is the shape of the head, but I am going to compare pics I find online to mine. Thanks again for your help :)
