 Leucistic Rat Snake

Hi guys.

im a little new to this so any help would be much appreciated.

I currently have a Taiwanese Rat Snake, he is approx 1.7 feet long but an absolute joy. at my pet store i found a leucistic rat snake measuring almost 4 feet. i want to breed with these 2 eventually when they old enough. think it would make an extraordinary snake. white with faint diamonds. my dealer already said that there would be a definate market. when i handled the snake she was very curious but very gentle, and is very beautiful.

now my question is, is my taiwanese still too small and in danger of being eaten or would they live in harmony and eventually breed? my tank at the moment is big enough for them but i would buy a bigger one later in the year.
any info would be wonderful

It is very difficult to breed new world rats to old world rats and requires a few tricks to get it done if then. Not something a beginner would be able to tackle. No offense to you intended.

The pet store owner would agree with anything to make the sale and the market for hybrids is not very strong contrary to what he says.

well, rat snakes aren’t canabalistic so there wouldn’t be much risk of harm to your snakes, you would have to feed them seperately, but i recommend you keep them seperate. and it is extremely difficult to breed old and new world rats, more of a pain than anything, i recommend that you try breeding the same species first and then see if you really want to breed them, it can get expensive, best of luck!!!

 Leucistic Rat Snake

Hello,
I also am new to this site and have a five mo. old Leucistic Texas Rat Snake. I have only had him for about two weeks and have tried to hold him at least once a day. He is still very aggressive and nips at me when i try to get him out of the tank. How can i train him to be a little more docile? i feed him in a separate place but am not sure what else i should do. He is a beautiful snake and i enjoy just having him but also enjoy holding him when he lets me!
Thanks
