Hi All, I am new to this site although old to snakes.
Can I breed a Yellow Rat snake to a Taiwanese Rat snake.
What sort of hybrid could I expect from such a pairing?
Is there a progeny predictor for Rat snakes like we have with the Corn snakes?
Thats all for now.

Ciao

It is very difficult to breed new world rats to old world rats. They basically are as different as night and day but when using the term "rat snake" we tend to think they are more closely related than they really are.

One method used is the "bait and switch" routine. Using this method you would place two of the same species together. For this example lets say you place two Taiwanese rat snakes together that are ready to breed. As soon as you notice the male is trying to breed her take her out and replace with a yellow rat female that has gone thru pre-breeding conditioning. SOMETIMES this works.

Thanks for that, the reason I ask is that I was going to by an adult female Yellow Rat, I can’t find an adult male and we have 6 months left to our breeding season, so I am not going to waste my money.
While on the subject, what can I breed my Leucistic female to, my male Leucistic will only be mature enough to breed in about a years time.
Once again. thanks for money saving info.
