 Leucistic texas rat snake

Hello,
I also am new to this site and have a five mo. old Leucistic Texas Rat Snake. I have only had him for about two weeks and have tried to hold him at least once a day. He is still very aggressive and nips at me when i try to get him out of the tank. How can i train him to be a little more docile? i feed him in a separate place but am not sure what else i should do. He is a beautiful snake and i enjoy just having him but also enjoy holding him when he lets me!
Thanks

Welcome to the world of Texas rat snakes. Frequent handling a few minutes everyday should help calm him down but do not be surprised if he stays nippy. Texas do rats have this reputation.

I totally agree with wise, lucy’s have a long standing reputation of being the nippiest of all the rat snakes but don’t worry just like wise said as long as you hold him or a her once a day the snake will start to calm down, i’ve had my lucy for over a year and she was really aggresive at the start (never bit me but bit a friend of mine). if you just got the snake its probably just stress, it took my snake almost a month before she started to calm down and now i handle her every few days and shes fine, no aggressive stances or anything. its just a matter of time until your snake calms down, but make sure when you do try and handle your lucy that when you pick it up its a flawless motion, i find that if you have to wrestle with the snake your just gonna piss her off even more, if it takes longer than 5 seconds to grab your snake you’ll have to figure out a way to get her more quickly because the longer it takes the more oppertunity your snake will have to get stressed and become aggressive towards you
