Release? I was wondering if you could release a wild caught rat snake(young, around 1-2 years in age) into the wild after a year in captivity. My friend didn’t know and had to get rid of his snake... I ended up taking it. It isn’t any good for handling, I feel bad because it is constantly trying to get out of its cage (unsuccessfully), and it was either I took it or he released it without knowing(thus I have a wild rat snake, that I really didn’t want). Oh, and I live in Kentucky if that somehow makes any difference.
I’m experienced with reptiles and have had a ball python and leopard gecko for ~4-5 years, but wasn’t really looking for any additions.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ANY AND ALL HELP! Hilldog

Release? You can try it, the only other choice would be to take old yeller to the barn and put him out of his misery, its probably a 50/50 chance the snake will survive out in the wild but if it was a wild caught snake before it was brought into captivity then it should remember all the basics to surviving unless of course its become to dosile but hey its either one certain death or one chance at death :)

Release? He’s not tame at all, but he came from the wild when he was probably less than a year old.
