 Asian rat snakes

I’ve only had a Taiwan Beauty and now have a Vietnamese Blue Beauty. These guys seem a little more "nervous" than other snakes and can get nippy (my Blue Beauty is very nippy right now). I have her on a bed of peat mixed with coco-fiber. This helps keep the humidity up and thus far, she’s had no problems shedding (which is a real issue here in DRY Arizona).

They like to climb AND burrow, so I’ve got a nice climbing tree for her and the peat/coco-fiber mix is deep enough for her to dig into.

I’ve got the temps in the lower 70’s at the cool end and 85 at the high end. In case she wants more heat, I’ve got a small heat lamp aimed at the higher branches where she sometimes loves to rest.

For food, Kokoro (her name) is large and eats full grown mice. In a few months, I’ll probably have to switch to ex-large mice or small rats. My Taiwan Beauty at large rats when he was 5 feet long. Got them down with no problem! LOL.

I find them very inquisitive... wandering around their cage both day and night looking here and there. Much more active than ALL my other snakes.

That’s my advice / input for these two types of asian rats. What kind are you gonna get?

Fred
