 Wrinkly Skin

We received a Bubblegum Rat as a gift before Christmas. She/He is a great little pet. I am not sure on the age but she is only about 16in long. A couple days ago I noticed that her skin was very wrinkly, almost like she is dehydrated. I thought that she might be getting ready to shed, although her eyes have never been milky. She still ate her 2 pinkies the yesterday and is acting normal. What might cause the wrinkly skin and what should I do. I am new to snake ownership, so any help is greatly appreciated.

It may be a stuck shed...after a few days to digest the latest meal soak her in a tub for at least an hour and see if there is old skin "flaking" off. Make sure its not too deep for her to drown but deep enough where most of her can stay suberged. If she is dehydrated she’ll drink while soaking too! If it is a stuck shed you’ll have to hand shed it off.

Bill Thank-you!! I will definitely try that. Do I peel a stuck shed like you would peel if you got sunburn? And should the water be warm or just room temp? Thanks again.

Can you tell me too, is it necessary to feed her somewhere other than her regular cage?

Check all your variables aswell. Temporature and so on. Be gentle as always with small things.

As for feeding, Some say you should so that they dont see your entering hands as food, however, I have been feeding mine in their home cage for almost two years. Maybe my snake is just too sweet to bite me or too smart to be turned into a belt (j/k) but I have not been bitten once.

Thanks Jeremi! She si still a bit wrinkly around the neck, and it looks like the shed is stuck on her head. The temp is right around 75F, but I don’t have a hygrometer so I don’t know about the humidity. She is still very active, so I am going to just keep watching her. I guess that I will just keep feeding her is her home. Appreciate the feedback.
