How often and what to feed 
Hi, I wanted to know how often and what size of prey to feed my 3’ black rat snake. I found him on my driveway and he is very cool. We are truly enjoying him. I’ve fed him 2 pinkies on two consecutive days but not sure if I should feed more. The snake didn’t hesitate to eat them but wouldn’t take a live mouse.

The best thing to do is release it, it just wanted to get warm on your driveway, not get put in a box. But if are going to keep him feed him a hopper sized mouse once a week. Sometimes wild snakes don’t eat live when they are imediatly taken out of the wild, because they are not used to being in such close quarters with its prey, and in an unknown environment. You may probably may just give him some time to settle in.

For 3’, I would feed him a dead adult mouse or small fuzzy rats, but thats a fairly big snake that needs to be fed just once a week. Or better yet just release him somewhere far away from people or driveways.
