 Black ratsnake

I recently came into a possesion of a black rat snake, 2 feet long. I caught the little guy outside my window. I used some extra subtrate i used for my Ball Python, and a hollow log. As well as a extra waterbowl i had laying around and my back-up heat lamp and bulb. Im heading to the pet store tomorrow to buy him a mouse.. Well, let me get to the point. After i see if he is going to eat, i may keep him. What should i get for him?

Hello,

Boy I envy you...here, we don’t have much choice for reptile substrates except for plain paper. Oh well.

That mouse should do just fine for feeding.

Does he have a "hidebox"?

Is it tame? Are you able to handle it just fine?

Since you mentioned/implied that you kept a ball python, don’t forget it’s water dish! :)

Yeah, i grabbed him a extra shallow bowl i had laying arround untill i can get to the pet store and get him a regular one. He is tamed ok, but he dont wanna come out of the hollow log i have for him. He only struck at me once, when i went to pick him up. Now, he just acts a little scared. But otherwise he is getting used to me.

Here is the URL to the video i have of letting the BRS I caught before, he was arround 5-6 feet.
He almost bit my brother because he wouldn’t leave the snake alone.

He ate! I put a thawed pinky mouse in his cage and about a hour later, i went to check on him and it was gone! Yay!
New addition to the family!

Also saw the flash vid....kewl looking snake!

As for the biting part, it’s understandable...you did state earlier (if I’m not mistaken) that it was caught...could be a bit feral. But since you mentioend that you were able to handle it fine, just keep it up. It;ll get used to you.

Just don’t make the mistake of letting it inside your shirt...that’s how my "very tame" rat snake bit me...he went inside, tickled me and I jerked which made him nervous and bit my shoulder.

Evil snake.. lol. My ball python always trys to get inside my shirt when im holding him.
Yeah, the snake in that video, i let go. He was to wild to tame. The 2 foot one that im keeping is getting more tamed everyday.
