No, mice and rats are seperate species. Different species cannot interbreed. Here’s an excellent link that will give you further information on that.

I got a female a little bigger than him, but they won’t breed, i am positive its a female and a male. Are there any tricks to breeding them? Thanks

well IF they are of the same species... the trick is patience... you have to wait until the female is willing and ready to breed to the male... and also for the male to be old enough where he actually realizes he can breed her... how old are they? or just post pics would be good too :) if its a mouse/rat your not going to get them to breed...

well again depends on how old they are... if your talking petco rats... the small ones arent even thinking about breeding... and med youll just have to wait and see... I know that sometimes my ratties have sucessfully bred without me seeing anything....

I usually wait to breed our female rats until they are around 250 grams or about 4 or so months of age. They can breed much smaller and younger but you tend to get way smaller litters or a female rat so young she’s a bit stupid about her litter and doesn’t care for them properly. If your intent is to breed good quality feeder rodents and lots of them....breeding female rats too young or too small just tends to defeat the purpose I think.

I know it has been awhile, but they finally bred, secretly. I came home today to find out that my rat was pregnant AND had given birth. There were 12, but 3 died coming out and 1 got eaten. Thanks for the tips.
