ok so I posted something similiar to this a while back but never got a clear resonse...

I just came across another rat pup except this one already has claws and his teeth are starting to poke out.

But my question is what would be the best thing to feed him?? and how much longer will it take for him to open his eyes and ears??

thanks alot!!!

Describe the rat pup or the post???

the rat pup is white with a black stripe going down his head and back, he walks around alot but stumbles alot.

the post just pretty much asked what to feed him and how to basically care for him.

Sorry my post was unclear...

So if the eyes aren’t open they will be w/in a few days. It would be really great if the mom could nurse it but feeders normally don’t come with Just In Case care packs.

Odds are the pup may not survive if its eyes dont open soon. Once the eyes open, feed soft foods- scraps will do for now.. Then get some special rat food in a bout a week and try it on that.

Hope this is helpful.

 New rat pup help...

if you want to keep him/her alive heres wat you need to do. i have hand raised many baby rats and this is what worked for me. you are going to want to make sure the baby stays warm. for feeding him/her, go and get KMR kitten formula(you can get it at petsmart). i like the powdered form since you can mix up only what you need at the moment, and once the baby grows up you can just store it untill you end up with a new baby. you are also going to want to get some sort of small eye dropper. you need to feed the baby every few hours. i normally feed them as much as they will eat. warm the formula up so it is just warm to the touch. this makes it easier to get them to eat since moms milk was never cool/cold. it also helps to keep their temperature from dropping. it might be a little difficult at first to get him/her to want to try it but in my experience as soon as they realise its food they really like it and drink it without a problem. good luck with you little guy and keep us posted with how he/she is doing.
