Cage sizes? Hey guys. I have two male rats, and I was wondering wat would be a good cage size for them. They are little now, but I will need to upgrade to a bigger cage when they get older. Could I have a few links of you guys favorite cages, if possible? (They are pets not feeders)

Cage sizes? I cant really tell u the size of my rats cage as i havent measured it but a friend gave it to me. She kept 2 chinchillas in it and they had loads of room so i think it is plenty big enough for my girls. Hope this helps.

Cage sizes? I would say a 30 gallon would suit two rats well. If you think you’ll need more space, try a 55 gallon that should be big enough for sure.

Cage sizes? Actually, a 55 gallon is only BARELY big enough for 2 rats. The rule of thumb is 2 square feet of floor space PER RAT, so a standard 55 (with 4 square feet) in theory would do for 2. There are a lot of problems with keeping rats in aquariums, though, and I strongly recommend a wire-mesh cage instead. Multiple levels are best, as rats are agile climbers.
Think bigger is better. Get the biggest cage you can afford (be sure the bar spacing is small enough that they can’t escape!), and fill it with as many toys/hammocks/tubes/tunnels/etc as you possibly can. Rats are very intelligent animals and need to be kept entertained. Don’t spend a bunch of money on these things, because they’ll destroy them quickly- make do with home-made things as much as possible.

Cage sizes? Hi. Now before I say anything I just want to say this is just my 2 cents, not trying to start anything. Anyway I’m involved in a animal management class in my high school and I was always told that for rats bigger was not better. I was told that rats prefer smaller closed spaces and wide open spaces stress them out. The rats we have do well in smaller cages BUT these cages are cleaned EVERY DAY. In my opinion and probably many of my classmates a 55 gallon tank for 2 rats is ridiculous! Anyway that’s what I was told by the teachers.

Cage sizes? Rats need large cages which allow them plenty of space to climb and explore. WITHIN that cage, they need cozy spaces to hide and sleep. Wide open space with no where to hide? Of course that’d stress them out, but hat’s not what I was talking about.

Cage sizes? I would say a 25-30 bar cage would be best for them. You don’t want it to big like a 55 gallon. Maximum, I would say 35. Minimum, 20.
