 Chewing off his own fur...

My 9- month old Rex male is chewing his fur off, like giving himself a haircut. I don’t think its hazardous to his survival, but what do you think could cause this?

He lives in an aquarium- probably 20 or so gallons- with two other males. They sometimes have little squabbles, but never have injured each other. He moved in with them three months ago. I don’t know if he is stresed or what...

What do think I should do about this?

Mice will do that, sometimes to the point of baldness. Stress could do it as he is the new fellow.

They say male will ALWAYS kill other males but I’ve been keeping many of them in large tanks like yourself for almost a year and I’ve had neigh an injury. So as long as they have LOTS of room, your golden.

Thanks. If he doesn’t stop, I may place him in another cage with another male.

I’m thinking of selling him after his next litter...otherwise snake food for my boa.

He’s a Rex Siamese, Proven Stud. How much should I ask?

Damn, I’ve wanted one like that. Siamese are rare around here. I’d give ya $15.00 or three small rats, but you could probably get more from the right person depending on age and his lineage.

check his skin for mites,,, alot of times the rexs are more allergic to them then normals, and itch more..mites come form bedding, so even if your super clean they could still have them,, i hav 7 male rats who all live together quite happily in a supersized ferret cage, and no one has ever tried to kill any one, and i’v introduced new rats 3 or 4 times..

It’s mites. :(
Don’t know if I can treat him though, he’ll eventually be snake food,
Maybe sooner than later- because I don’t want him to suffer with
mites but I can’t poison the snake.... That’s a tough one.
