 Ferrets

well why wont she let you have one? it depends on her reasons.... like if its cost (and your old enough and dont already have one) get a job so you can pay for it yourself all the time etc etc

 Ferrets

Your Mom may havemore insight than you realize. Ferrets are NOT just large cage pets - like a rat or a guinea pig - they are very active, interactive family members that require a LOT of committment. They are highly intelligent and require social interaction. They are great companions, but not generally suited for young people used to mice, gerbils and guinea pigs. Ferrets are just about 50/50 dog & cat. IOW they can be independent, litter box trainable, curious, explorers and climbers like cats, yet easily learn tricks, walk on leash, and socaible like a dog. They form definite bonds with their family and if ignored can develope self destructive behavior, or even serious health troubles. Ferrets have a more strict dietary need than dogs or cats and in order to be the healthiest they do best on a totally carnivorous diet consisting of whole prey and raw meaty bones. Ferrets can be fed kibbled diets, but these ferrets all too often develop severe dietary related health problems and this shortens their life. Check out other ferret sites for more info like yahoo groups NaturalFerrets, and Ferretopia forum. Rsponsible young people DO make great ferret keepers, but usually ferrets aren’t an ideal pet for young people.

Cheers!

 Ferrets

I just want to add to how active they are. This past weekend my ferret somehow slipped into the garage. In the 3 hours he was missing, he chewed a hole into the dryer vent, and left the garage through it. He then managed to travel 8 houses down and was found in their garage eating their cat food. My cat doesnt even travel that far.

I will say when I found him, Ive never seen an animal so happy to see me as he was
