 Almonds BAD For Hamsters?

I read a book about hamsters and it said to noy give it to them.Before I read the book, I gave my hamster one ,but he seemed perfectly fine.........Is this all true?

It is true that hamsters should not be fed almonds. Although one almond shouldn’t harm your hamster, it is best if you avoid feeding him any more. Bitter almonds are high in cyanic acid, which can be fatal to small animals.

I have a question on this...I just bought a breeding pair of rats to use for my snakes but at my pet store where I bought my rats the food they sell for them contain whole almonds is it just for hampstr etc or does this apply to rats as well?

I did a little extra research on your question - your breeder rats should be just fine with almonds. I don’t think their diet should consist wholly on almonds, considering that it contains oxalate, which are toxins that can bind up calcium. :)
