 WYOMING SALAMANDERS...

Is there anyone in or around wyoming??? I have some questions about where to find salamanders around here, I love photography and would like to take some shots of some if I could ever find any. I have tried lots of places, but no luck yet, the only one I found was injured and obviousley out of habitat, he lives with me now...well, not anymore with my best friend now, he was injured and cold outside of a barracks at a national guard training camp..I think a soldier had him inside and got in trouble (not supposed to have any pets inside the barracks.) so they just threw him out...he was a great find though, I loved him and he is still doing GREAT!

any help would be great.

The only salamanders you can find in Wyoming are Tiger salamanders, which are pretty amazing. They are hard to find though, because they like to burrow. Try a cool summer/autumn evening (after dusk) after it has rained. They may come out of the ground to look for food then. Good luck herping!

THanks, any info on where to look for babies...I take lots of photos of frogs, toads, turtles and other such wildlife, but i never find salamanders. Yes the tiger sal is what I am wanting to find...we had one and he was absoutley amazing. Do you think they would be around the same ponds as the Bullfrogs or would the bullfrogs be too agressive for them to be around there?? I am not sure of their favorite habitats...is it the same as the frogs?

These photos were taken on Oct 16 2007 on FS Road 521 in Medicine Bow National Forest (Snowy Range). My buddy and I were elk hunting when this critter crossed the road. We were at ~9,000 feet.

Enjoy!

 WYOMING SALAMANDERS...

Last fall, my children found what we thought were tadpoles in a pond in our back yard. When we started to use them for a science project, we discovered that we did not have little frogs but actually salamanders in a tadpole stage. I am looking for more information about what it might actually be. Could you maybe help me?

I realize this is an old thread, but just incase you’re still looking...

Laramie is a pretty good place to find tigers, Labonte park (stink lake) usually has them out and about during the warmer months. Cheyenne should be a good one if you can find some areas near water

The childrens muesem in laramie also has tigerso n display, they are actually really easy to find if you just flip some logs in the summer

Im from laramie lol

sorry man I didnt figure it was a problem

I doubt there are in sellers in wyoming, and there arn’t enough salamanders to make a profit, you’d be wasting your gas or kill your car engine trying to make it up summit to get here

yeah, that would be a lot harder than the mass collections of firebellies in asia and fire salamanders in europe, or the mass reptile trade where they capture thousands of animals from africa and south america, etc.

haha..collectors would love to get someplace that easy.

 WYOMING SALAMANDERS...

just remember, pretty much every tiger salamander you see for sale is wild caught, not many have been bred
