Help Identifying!
I’m mostly from the Leopard Gecko forums but recently I caught a salamander which I am now housing. I just need some help identifying it so I can read up further on them specifically and they’re characteristics. I found him in underneath a rock on the side of a slow moving, extremly shallow creek in thick mud. He is a dark brown colour on top with even darker brown spots. His belly is grey and he has a rounded head. The tail kind of reminds me of like a fin that he uses to push him along when he swims. His total length from tip of head to the tail is approximately 4.5 inches. I put him in a 10 gallon tank 2/3 water and 1/3 land. He occasionaly will take a swim in the water but most of the time is in the shallow water where his upper half is out of the water and the lower and underbelly is still in the water. I currently don’t have pictures as my camera is down, but if anyone could help me identify this little salamander that would be much appreciated as then I can further read up on this species and improve his living conditions to his best benefit! !I have many un-answered questions so answering as soon as possible would be really great! ** Also i’m on the Northwest Coast of North America if that helps you in identifying! Thanks! If you have any questions please reply and i’ll get back to you! |

Does this look like it? Clouded Salamander, Aneides ferreus I will do more research when I get a chance. Tell me exactly where you live (well, not exactly! I don’t want your address! But I want a state and N, S, E, W with in that state. Ok?) Also, tell me how many toes he has on his back feet. This can help differentiate between some of the slender salamanders and other species of lungless salamanders. |
