Sometimes they need extra time to get acclimated. I would keep trying. I thought my FBN wasn’t eating until I found him catching them in his cricket rock.

this post may be dead but :
try holding the pinhead by its head using tweezers an put half its body in the water just above your newt.
When i do this with mine the crickets move there legs which attracts the newts as they see the movement.

Try providing it with a semi-aquatic environment. Some specimens, when they aren’t in breeding condition, prefer to live on land. I have one like this in my collection that has been doing well for a couple of years. The setup is basically a 10 gallon aqua-terrarium with a woodland area where I have a few flat slate rocks under which it likes to hide, and a water area just a couple of inches deep, with some aquatic plants. This portion is separated by an inclined strip of glass, beveled at the edges, and cemented in place with silicone. I use a fluorescent light overhead, mainly for the benefit of the plants. I also have some red-spotted newts in the same setup that seem to divide their time between the land and water.

The firebelly seems to basically prefer the land area, and tends to hide under one particular rock, but can be tempted to snap at any small cricket or worm that is dangled before it with a broomstraw.
So, why not try a setup like this and see if there is any improvement?

Some specimens can be coaxed into eating by placing them overnight into a small "playpen" consisting of a plastic Tupperware container with small air holes in the top, filled with a one inch substrate of damp soil. Just drop some very small worms, pinhead crickets, or woodlice in with the newt, and unless it is sick, you’ll see that it will start hunting them!
