 They’re here!

Well they arrived this afternoon! They are awesome!! My computer will not read the memory card and it wont recognize the usb device...so until I figure out what is happening with that I can’t post pics.! Grrrr! I want to show them off! Anyway on a good note they are awesome! I put a worm in front of them and they gobbled them up right away (actually I had to cut the worms cause they were thrashing them around so much and trying to shove them in they might have hurt themselves!) So they each took a total of 1 worm from my hand within 10 min. of them being here! The company I ordered from was very fast at getting them to me and had great prices and shipping rates, but they used regular postal service and the packaging didn’t say live animals or anything; so when my son came up to the door saying "oh my salamanders!" the mailman was like "I don’t think so buddy...they didn’t say anything to me..." giving me the impression they were probably thrown around a lot in the last 24 hrs!! Anyway they are here, plump and ready to eat and explore their new home, I will post pics as soon as I can!!

the company I got them from did not specify, but I believe them to be barred tiger salamanders (Ambystoma mavortium mavortium)

well, the company you bought them from sent pretty healthy sallys then.
what was the name of the company?
i’m looking to get another CFBN..I can’t find any breeders, kingsnake hasn’t had them on classifieds in a while and I was hoping to find a good place to buy them from.
:)
thanks!

 They’re here!

They had great prices and a standard s&h fee of $19.95 for up to 6 items and free s&h with orders over $100! They e-mailed me a few days before shipping to let me know what day they would arrive, and again the night before to let me know it would be before 3pm and if not there by 4 to contact them. The salamanders I received are very healthy as far as I can tell, so yes the company seems to do a great job! My only problem was that the package did not have any "live animals/fragile" stickers or stamps, so I am pretty sure the package got banged around without any special care. Here is a link to the site: Link

oh and I am pretty sure one is definitely a male, his cloaca is very swollen, much more so than the other who may be female (she’s been hiding in the underground tunnels I made so I haven’t gotten a great look at her) Also when they burrow do they use their head? The one who I think is male was rubbing his head back and forth in the substrate (I think to burrow, or at one point I thought looking for food- he thrashed his worm around too much and threw it) But I also read that they do this when mating, rub against the female, which I caught him doing, but I thought he was maybe just trying to burrow in front of her.....

Where are they native too? I think I have seen a yellow spotted salamander before. Are they mole salamanders? (i know they are tigers but, don’t they belong a group called that?)

 They’re here!

They are moles.
1. barred are native to texas and oklahoma and very few in kansas
2.Easterns range from east texas through the east coast and north eastern states
3.Blotched live in the mid-west
4.Grays and Sonorans live in Arozonia through New Mexico and in the far north states
5.Calafornia Tiger lives in Calofornia
6. Western subspecies live in The west(texas over)
7. New species are uccuring on the south- western borders
8. and some unkown subspecies are appearing all over america

And even with such a large habitat they are endangered(VERY) in the wild thats why its usualy illegal to take them out of the wild
