Yes, it is a Chinese origin Cynops orientalis, not the larger Japanese C. pyrrhogaster. It will nto get much bigger at all. Looks good though. It does not eat the shrimp?

he is indeed cynops orientalis. :)

And he is way too lazy to eat shrimp..lol. He doesn’t even really notice them, never chased them even.
He only even goes near frozen bloodworms for food, and that is his staple diet. I never feed him anything else.

Try getting him on pellets. They are much more complete and balanced. Any one food that is not a pellet is usually far from a complete diet.

Read that. Bloodworms are much more nutritious than pellets.

Try New Life Spectrum. Not all pellets are bad. There are many that are bad, but if you get the good stuff it is much better than a diet of lots of variety of live and frozen foods, not to mention just one. Any live food has the risk of introducing an assortment of parasites and diseases. The risks they mention do not apply to high quality pellets when fed the proper amount.

Mine are frozen.
And I’ll look into new life spectrum then.

Even some frozen foods can introduce pathogens, can’t remember if bloodworms was one though.

Just pick a NLS of the right size and check whether it floats or sinks, don’t worry about whether it says for goldfish, discus, etc. as they are almost all identical.
