First do research and see what is best for you..
I beleive that the easiest would be a tiger salamander ... It is terrestrial and easy to keep..

1-2 salamander per 20 gall and can be put on sphagnum moss pot soil mix...
Feed 1-2 times a week 5-6 crickets ( fed in water bowl to help protect from impaction). with water bowl they can ’swim’ in and a dark hiding spot.

No UVB light or heating required.

NEEDS TO BE VERY DAMP!

Handle them as Least as possible.. the oils in their skin will dry them up and kill them.. or cause rashes and rubbing off of skin which will lead to death

Crickets should be dusted in calcium sup. once every 3 weeks.

REMEMBER to put a very stable top on it... or else they will climb out, they are very strong.

Good Luck!

And make sure you use treated water in their water bowl. Or else the chlorine will kill them.

Sorry for the double post

a note on the sphagnum moss, Its generally pretty acidic, too acidic for salamanders and could reduce the life of your salamander (also when they harvest it, they drain the bogs it lives in and then they cut it out, not to eco friendly)

otherwise I agree on everything reptile freak said, tigers are the way to go as far as beginner sals

Where did you get that sphagnum is toxitic????????

Ive bred MANY different kinds of reptiles and amphibians on it and actually... Ive have NEVER heard that it contains Toxin.

Go to A plant or Homedepo or something and You wont see anything about toxins.

Sphagnum is not toxic.

Sorry for the interruption but he said it was "too acidic" which in my vocabulary doesn’t mean the same as "toxic". Don’t want to step on anyone’s toes just thought I should bring it up to alleviate any possibility of an argument from starting.
