Try cut up night crawlers instead of the mealworms. Mealworms are not a very good diet since they are more difficult to digest. You can certainly try the other items you mentioned along with bloodwrorms and blackworms. Each has its own taste. My 3 newts each like different types of worms so they are fed whichever they will eat.

instead of nightcrawlers, go out and find small worms in pesticide/fertilizer free areas, and then you can feed to your newts, and plus you can cut up the bigger ones and they will still be smaller then the nightcrawlers

I know these guys are hard to feed, especially during winter...

 Couple of problems

i go to the pet store and buy 2 container’s of trout worm’s and cut them up to pinky nail size and my newt’s LOVE them and they wouldn’t touch meal worm’s but now they swim in circles when it’s feedin time, and i have a question for you how many do you have, what gender there size because that affect’s there diet,[ in my experience with newt’s and lizard’s male’s tend to hang around female’s and catch worm’s then give it to them as a gift it’s reaaly wierd but normally that’s with the older newt’s.
