Taxonomically, they are caudates which is an order of the class Amphibia. Amphibian means double life, and both salamanders and newts have different stages in water and on land. Basically, everything that’s an actual tadpole (excluding lampreys and sea squirts) is an amphibian. |

all newts are salamanders. only 9 genuses of salamanders are newts. :) |
