How much are newts supposed to eat? 
Hey everybody, I have two newts and they are pretty fat. They both love to eat, I feed them crickets, reptomin and thier favorite wax worms. My smaller newt can eat about three wax worms every feeding and the bigger one can eat about four. Not only that they seem to be hungry like every other day. Is this too much food? Thier bellys are really big, but I don’t want to under feed them either. Does anybody know a specific amount that they should be fed?

MM: I am curious as well..I feed them -- right now - red worms - once every other day..they chow down and seem very content... enough energy to burn swimming/climbing/haning out (4 / 20 gal tank/lots of caves/rocks/sticks/plants).
...I heard they can go like 3 days w/o eating....just how much is just right?
(I bet Weeble has the answer to this one...always got good advice...)

Yes Weeble will know. But I know that newts can be like fish and eat and eat and eat! So it is always better to have live hungry newts than full and dead newts! I think every other day feedings and maybe cut down on the #of worms. Wax worms aren’t so nutritious they are the equivalent if junk food. They make a better snack/treat. Maybe feed them reptomin and alternate crickets and waxworms. Good luck keep us informed!

yea watch out for bloating, make sure you do not over feed i think the red worms every other say is great feedin schedual but still watch and make sure they are all eating every set of newts will eat different but you should get a regular thing down aftr w while with your newts
