when is mating season for fire belly newts. ive read that male firebellys get a shine to their tails. well some fire bellys are just dark black and others are more of a dark gray. are the lighter ones girls or is it just their skin?

Females r usually larger and fatter. while males are smaller and have a dorsal fin like part on their tail. During mating season the males clocoa is swollen.
