 Egyptian Death Stalker.

Hello. I’v been thinking about getting a Tarantula or a Egyptian Death Stalker. Any thing specific I should know about them I know they’re Venom is dangerous. They dont jump or anything do they? If you get stung is there anything you can do or are you basically a dead man walking? I will do lots of research on it before I buy one. So can anyone help me out please.

Thanks,

Well if you haven’t kept scorps at all I would not get a death stalker, they are highly aggressive and venomous. You would be dead by the time you got to the hosp. If you want a scorp as a first timer get emperors, they are easy to care for easy to mate and hardly ever sting they do pinch and draw blood.

Unlike tarantulas scorpions can’t climb smooth surfaces which makes working with "hot" scorpions generally easy, however some baby scorpions are known to climb up the silicone on an aquarium or on glass where water spots have collected. When working with dangerous scorps always make sure to use the proper tools such as 12" forceps/tongs at all times.

I’d recommend either a Desert Hairy (Hadrurus arizonensis) or a Dune scorpion (Smeringurus mesaensis)...keep both on sand with a temp of around 85 degrees and humidity at 50-55%.

Both of these are a bit more venomous and more aggressive than an emperor but in return you get a more active scorpion, a scorpion that shows a threat display at the drop of a hat, a specie that you don’t have to worry about humidity (except for to much) and one that practically always stings it’s prey.

Actually Deathmaiden, deaths from the L.Q. are actually quite rare, despite there potent venom. That is considering you get proper treatment.

I wonder how long it would take for the hospitals to get the right stuff to treat you with.

Well I’ve had over 100 scorpions and my favorite although shortest kept one and I’ve only had one of them, is the Death Stalker. Needless to say they are not called furry little mouse stalker (unless you give ’em a mouse:]) But back to my point I got it because it was the most deadly thing I could find at the moment, which I don’t recomend. The reason I got rid of it is not because it was a bad specimen, but it STUNG....I SAID STUNG me on my finger nail. I still have no idea how but it did, not into my bloodstream but it was still way more than I could handle. So if you like to be totally scared of your "PET" and feel like stressing it almost to death everytime (if ever) you decide to clean its tank, which I do every month than by all means get a few. But you may find others that apeal to you more than this one might, so look around.

Well is that LD of humans because most of the time if it doent say it a rat in the test. Also if you do get stung...on your skin you will have all the problems you can handle, your hospital doesnt have what you need and it will take time to get there. My ONLY advice is DONT get stung, also where are you going to get the scorp.? Can you post pics or links?? Good Luck!

http://www.eastcoastzoological.com/ is this the one your getting

Make sure the one you get has only the last segment of the telson(not the one that is the stinger) a nice medium black not super dark or light to ensure its bred fairly, meaning almost if not full blooded. Also the price, it should be about 45 before shipping, most 15 dollar ones as noted on the site are a different "strain" if you will. What that means is they are bred with cheaper scorpions closely related in species, or sub-species I guess.

Whatever the case you will find what you need at the site you posted. Hope that helped.

just wanted to add a death stalker sting has only killed like 3% of people stung, and in thos cases they are very young, very old, or susceptible to stings, you dont really need treatment i have been stung and was fine within a couple of hours
