New male scorpion ATE the female

Hi,
I bought a small female Imperial Scorpion (9cm approx) last week who was extremely aggressive, even in the pet shop, which, being a new owner, I was assured this was normal.
2 days later, the male (placid) was available ((12cm) and within 2 hours the male had her tail in his mouth which he chewed of while she was all contorted. She died an hour later.
I trawled every piece of info before I bought them and listened to everything the pet shop owner told me and I am devastated that she died in my care.
The pet shop said "It happens sometime" but I’m not convinced.
What did I do wrong please?

Yes, the female had been in a small tank for 2 days like I was told and they were both put into a larger new tank at the same time.
Almost immediately, he started to ’judder’ his body at her. I thought he just fancied her rotten!

Right now, my boy had fallen in love with temperatute gauge! lol

this happens sometimes, the first reason being the size difference, if the size difference is big the bigger one will attack the smaller one, especially if they are hungry, which may be the second reason as to why ur female ended up eaten. Also, another reason may be that there werent enough hiding palces for the two of them. When i set up my tank, i gave 2 hiding places, one big enough for 2 emps, the other one big enough for 3 or even 4 of them, that way, they can chose their hiding spots and have plenty of room. Technically there should be more hiding palces than scorps in the tank, but i figured that the ones i gave have plenty of room, and the 2 that i have get along very well. Remember that if you have a heating pad under one side of the tank, thats where a hiding spot with lots of room will be as they most likely will end up being in there together. Hope that helps.
