if hes climbing my cord i would take the heat rock out and get a small under tank heater. that’s what we use on all our tanks. as for the black light, i wouldn’t use it. they are alright to use when showing friends that they glow or to help find them when you can’t see em, but otherwise, extended exposure to the black light will stress them out. an undertank heater should be all the heat you need. if you want lighting just use a small watt flouresent bulb.

the temp outside doesn’t matter, unless you don’t use ac or heat in your house. if you keep your house at normal room temp (72*F) i would use a small under tank heater...and yes you can put them on the side as well. you stick them where ever you want (i use them under and on the side, depending on how my substrate is...sand-underneath, false bottom-side). you need to give them a choice of being warmer or not. if your house temp is around 80 then you’ll pry be alright without one, but i don’t recommend no heat at all.

Heat rock is dangerous because your scorpion can potentially get burn. Blacklight do not emit any heat but rather ultraviolet radiation and that’s bad for the scorpion. Like others have mentions just get an under tank heater. I use a Walgreen electronic therapeutic heating pad.

82° is actually a good heat gradient for the ’warm’ side, but should also provide it a cooler side for thermal regulation. The cooler side should be between 72° - 77° and never any lower than 70°. The warm side should be at 80°-85° and never any higher 90°. I suggest a thermostat if you’ll be using a heat pad, especially one mounted on the side. Heat pads tend to get really hot. Even the smaller ones. Just make sure you monitor both warm and cool sides to keep your scorpion happy. Oh and if you MUST,... use your blacklight for quick display only! UV lighting is hazardous and cause stress to scorpions.

i thought it was supposed to be 75°-90° and my heat rock is the reason for it being 82° in my room. so i unplug it on hot days and sometimes plug it in at night because it is cooler.
