yeah, this forum is pretty much dead besides me and scorpion newbie lol Well, a desert hairy is much more active than an emperor scorpion. They have many cool qualities, one being that they will use their stingers to take down prey. They also dig elaborate tunnel systems too. So for activity and stinger usage, I would definitely suggest the desert hairy as a great beginner scorpion. They usually do best with 1 in a container as they may cannibalize. The container is also fine for housing the scorpion, a 5 gallon is already enough space. If you wish to learn more, there’s a site dedicated to scorpions called the Scorpion Forum where there are many knowledgeable members. here’s the site: http://scorpionforum.darkbb.com/forum.htm Here’s a desert hairy caresheet: http://scorpionforum.darkbb.com/caresheets-f29/hadrurus-arizonensis-desert-hairy-scorpion-t218.htm |

I went from thinking about having a scorpion, to owning one, to now owning 2, now im not far off getting a third tbh, and im thinking of a small desert species, and i know exactly what you mean about the stinging prey thing, watching my emperors kill its food is the best part of owning them i would say, but i want to see what i would be like to watch one sting its prey, so i guess were thinking the same sort of. And glad you looked through mine and Dualls convosation, a long one i know, but i had alot of things that i wanted to know, im one of those people who like to know every little thing lol. Also don’t knock holding a scorpion, you think now you wont hold it, i didnt think for a second about holding mine, but like Duall said to me once "I dont know anyone who hasnt owned a scorpion and not held it atleast once" My male emperor is friendly as anything, the female, well not so much lol. I let the male out, he likes to sit on my laptop cause off the heat it gives off i guess, i was typing away for 40 mins right infront of him without him taking it as any sort of threat, chances are if a scorpion see’s you as a threat it will go into its attack position, but confront it anymore than that chances are it will run. Hope to hear from you soon, hit me or duall up on here if you need help, i check everyday cause mine and Duall’s convo is still going lol, and like i said im on the one he recommended too under The-New-Guy Dont be a stranger :D |

Scorpion-newbie, It is nice to always have someone to help you, even just one person. I am active on the red tail forums and no one really talks there anymore. I actually read EVERY post in that thread last night while I was at work, 11pm - 7am. It took me until about 3am I believe, but very worth it. I love to research all animals especially if i’m thinking of getting one. I know way more then I should about animals I dont own and probably never will too. haha. But it was nice to go through every step and get an idea of what i’ll need, how to set it up, the adjustment, everything. So thank you for all the questions you posted in that thread, it’s very informative. Thanks again guys here’s some pictures of some of the pets Tokays (angry little girls)

I think the reason emps are popular is because they’re very large but more docile than other scorps at the same time. They’re also usually the only scorpions sold in pet stores as well and have very mild venom. The media also shows emperor scorpions a lot too. Here’s the care sheet again: http://scorpionforum.darkbb.com/caresheets-f29/hadrurus-arizonensis-desert-hairy-scorpion-t218.htm btw, if you wish to get a desert hairy, make sure you get a large juvenile or an adult. The younger ones will most likely die trying to molt. |
