if you dont want it to die you should probably release it as you dont know anything them.
The pictures arent very good so they are no help in ID’ing the species and you did not say where you live which would help narrow things down quite a bit. Releasing it is better for the animal and the species. If you want a "pet" lizard find a species you like, research the hell out of them, buy all the supplies then get a lizard. You’ll be much happier with the end result.

yah dude, just release it back where you found it. if you don’t there’s a good chance, in fact about a 98.5% chance, that it’ll just die. and if you keep it too long and then decide to release it, it may harm the ecosystem, so please just release it. nobody is yelling at you, but we just can’t stress enough how important it is to leave wild animals where they are.

No, that is a ground skink, common in Texas and other states. it eats mealworms or Small crickets

It could be a couple of names it looks like
1 Yiliaua branchialis Skink
2 Great Plains Skink
3 tetragrammus Skink
4 chalcides sepsoides Skink
5 Acontias Skink

and they usally eat mealworms crickets locust apple sauce and more you can look up the names on the net I hope I was help full enough

lizardluver is actually the closest, it is impossible to tell from the photos as there are like 50 lizards that look almost identical. probs from the genus Scincella

There’s nothing wrong with keeping a WC for your first Lizard. He needs to get it accurately identified, find out how to care for it, and get the things he needs. A 10 gal tank, with some basics should only run like $25-30. Crickets are cheap, mealworms are under $3.00 for a hundred at petco or petsmart.

To the original poster. Post better pics please, and research, research, and research. It is easy for new herpers to misidentify their first couple of wild herps.
