Thinking about getting a red eye skink

my husband and i already have a leopard gecko and a fat tail, and we are looking into getting another lizard. we think we’ve narrowed our decision to between a crested gecko and a red eye skink. we’ve found reputable stores that sell both, but we havent figured out just which one to get. then we started thinking about if they could be housed together.

our other two lizards both have their own tanks, and our new addition (which ever one it is) will have its own as well. we realize that all of them need different environments. however, everything we’ve read about both the crested and the red eye seem to say that they would need the same environment, eat the same foods, and both do well in groups(but groups of other reptiles is not mentioned for either). And seeing as how the red eye would take to the ground for hiding and burrowing, and the gecko would take to climbing, we’re not sure if they would even be bothered by each other.

does anyone know whether or not these two lizards would or could do well living in the same terrarium?

I’m not real familiar with the husbandry for the red-eyed skinks, but they are almost exclusively available as wild caught imports with high parasite loads. If a crested were to be housed with one of these guys there would be a high likelihood of parasite or disease transmission. This could easily prove fatal for the crested. Because of the parasite issues and the fact that you’re dealing with wild caught adults you’re much more likely to run into acclimation issues with the skink. Unless you’re prepared to face a challenge / potentially uphill battle to get your skink acclimated and healthy, the crested would be the better choice. Cresteds are also much more tolerant of occasional handling / disturbance.

I have 2 red eye croc skinks I house them both in a 2X1X1 herp cage they do fine. They very shy dont like to be handled and arent agressive feeders mine eat when no one is looking I have caught them feeding sometimes but I would suggest you get the cresite. I wouldent reall house them together because of the reason the guy before me said paracites and anything that can go bad will go bad. cresties are pretty cool im going to getr a couple of them in a couple of months.
