My skink stiletto0s Just regular dirt is fine. I use 2 parts dirt, 1 part sand, and 1 part coco fiber. It just holds better for burrows.
This is a pic of my Western Skinks, Related to the 5 lined.

My skink stiletto0s Please DO NOT remove the dirt if he digs alot. I’ve seen alot of videos online of kids taking out the dirt and putting in newspaper because they weren’t "cool" when they dug. Digging is a natural instinct and if you do take the dirt out, It will stess the heck out of them and they will die. Do you have a light bulb? Leave the light bulb on all day and he should come out and bask. Turn it off at night, just like his real habitat. If he doesn’t come out in a week or two, then you have a nocturnal skink, lol. One out of my three skinks is nocturnal while one comes out in the early mourning and is never to be seen again till the next day then one is basker. The two that I do not see very often are my females. If your skink doesn’t get an orangish jaw this spring, its a female.
Hope this helped.
