BTS! Information and help needed, just a newbie :)
first of all i hope you understand my english, im from denmark (sure you all know where it is ;)). i have never owned a reptile before, and i was going to get a bearded dragon. but when my mother heard about its need for cockroaches and crickets, she wasnt too happy hehe.. then i heard about the blue tongue skink and i think it looks like a pretty cool lizard, and also a good choice for a beginner. but i have some questions... - Ive read that it can course a very painful bite with its jaws. do they bite often, compared to bearded dragons for example? do they sometimes just bite without a reason, ive heard some stories that makes me think that... - i have a 10% uvb desert uv-lamp. can i use this in the terrarium? - i have a terrarium that is 3½ feet long, 20" wide, 20" high. is that an okay size for a single bts? - can you take a bts out of the terrarium? - does it need to get its food dusted with vitamins, minerals and calcium? - is it a better choice for a beginner than a bearded dragon? a lot of questions, i know, but i hope you would answer some of them :) best regards zandie |

That size is great for one. I take my girls out for short periods of time. I have 8 cats, who are very interested in them, so I hold them rather than letting them go running around anywhere. Dusting is always a good idea! There are some sites that say BTS don’t need UVB, although the explanations for why that is aren’t very coherent, so I use a 5.0 tube. As far as one or the other being better for a beginner, they’re both pretty good for beginners (: If your mom doesn’t like the thought of crickets in the house, but you really really want a BD, find a way to convince her. If in your research you think you’d like a BTS better, go with that. They’re certainly easier to feed since they eat what we eat (small amts of fruits, more veggies, some chicken) so you don’t have to make special trips to the store each week for crickets - or raise them. BTW, your English is great! (: - Yav |
