Hurt 5 Lined Skink Hi..I accidentally ran over a 5 lined skink with the lawn mower about a week ago. He lost his tail, half of a rear leg and some front claws/fingers (?) . I have him in a plastic container with newspaper and a water dish. I’ve been misting him and feeding him insects that I’ve been catching. He seems to be recovering well.
OK..so, my question is probably a dumb one, but can he re-grow his leg? And if not, will he be able to survive if I release him or should I make him a pet?

Hurt 5 Lined Skink Yeah..I did some more research and I found out it won’t grow back. I don’t really want a new pet, but it probably won’t survive on it’s own. Oh well..Guess I don’t have much choice.

Hurt 5 Lined Skink HI..Well, he has been doing ok. He ate a cricket yesterday, but he hasn’t been out of hiding today. I think he’s going to make it. I never had a lizard before, so this is all new to me. One question..I know you aren’t supposed to leave crickets in the cage with him, but they tend to hide and I don’t know whether he ate them or not. So do people just watch until their lizard eats all the crickets? Maybe it’s not a problem with most lizards, but he’s kind of slow since he’s missing a leg.

Hurt 5 Lined Skink i had a 3 legged broad-headed skink a couple months ago. those species are really fast and excellent hunters.it would eat any insect i put into that cage and chase after it like he had 4 legs! i have 3 other ones and they are all doing good. so i released the 3 legged one after the scar faded away and i still sometimes see him.he’s still in good shape.

Hurt 5 Lined Skink That’s interesting...Was yours missing a front or back leg? Mines missing a back leg plus half of one of his front claws. He gets around, but not that fast. But maybe he’ll improve. He also may still be adjusting, because I moved him into his new home, a 10 G aquarium.
He came out today and ate a cricket and some mealworms. But then hopped right back into the bowl of potting soil I put in there for him. Do they all spend 99% of their time hiding?
