 BTS!!!! Bedding

I was seeing lots of pics with a BTS on sand, mulch, aspen bedding, etc. I was wondering what is the best bedding for a BTS. I have mines on mulch, but I am putting him in a larger encloser soon.

I really like repti-bark. It looks great in the terrarium, has low odor though still smells good, is clean (vs. continuously brushing off mulch or soil off your skink), and they can dig in it very well. Mine seems to love it!
Aspen is the more popular choice. It is also very good.
Mulch and sand are also often used but I don’t like them at all.
Some people may also use carpeting or fake turf. I don’t think this is at all a good idea for blue tongues. Not only can clean up be hard, nasty, and frustrating (blueys drag their bellies which means they will also drag it through poo), it is the least natural to the animal in that they cannot dig in it.

Some others are coconut fiber and carefresh.

Also, please do not use pine. Even if the scent is lowered, it may still be dangerous for reptiles as well as other animals.

this pine is processed diferently and has the same level of scent as the aspen does

plus i think that reptile bark smells worse than anything else b/c we use that at work and it has a very strong smell

i belong t a chinchilla forum and almost everyone uses kiln dried pine so it is definatly safe for them i assume it is safe for the bts b/c it has the same amount of smell as the aspen

i use/recommend aspen. but i would avoid pine...
there is a list of different types on bluetongueskinks.net which is very resourceful.

carefresh is widely used as well as reptibark and Aspen shavings. make sure to have about 3 or more inches for your bts to burrow.

i started off with a brand name bedding called desert snow i think. i cant remember the company name but it performed less than stellar, and was relatively more expensive.

if you have a petsmart and a petsmart card you can get a jumbo bag of aspen shavings for like $12 and it will fill a forty about twice
