HELP!!! I found 3 small garden skinks and I don’t know how to look after them! Please help. I live in Australia and I found 3 Small skinks in a friends backyard. I took them home and they are all living in a Fish Tank with various rocks and dirt in it. I am feeding them meal worms and small spiders I find around the house, but recently they have stopped eating. It is Autumn in Australia at the moment and they are hiding under the rocks in the tank all the time. I am not sure whether to keep trying to feed them and give them water, or just leave them for a while, so they can hibernate. The weather is cool, but not freezing at the moment.
Can you please tell me if they are hibernating and if so for how long, and what actions should I take?
Thanks Heaps,
LizardMuncher

HELP!!! I found 3 small garden skinks and I don’t know how to look after them! Hibernation requires being able to dig down to low temperatures, like 50 degrees Farenheit. Indoors, if it’s too cool to eat but too warm to hibernate, they’ll just starve. Heat, light, and humidity can keep them healthy and eating year round.

HELP!!! I found 3 small garden skinks and I don’t know how to look after them! I say release them back in the wild. Australia has very strict laws about catching and keeping Native wildlife if I remember correctly. But most importantly, if you odnt know how to care for them, then you are not doing them a favor by keeping them in captivity. Let them go!

Have you got a heat lamp in their cage? If you heat them up they should eat, then turn the lamp off in winter so they can hibernate. Make sure it is COLD when you want them to hibernate, though. This is what we are doing with our skinks and Blue Tongue when be go on holidays.
Good luck with your new pets! JoCee
