 Im confused

I have listened to all of your info and went to blue tongued skink.net. I looked at their feeding chart and it says that i can use waxworms for a major portion of the diet. Everyone i have asked says dont use them. Can someone please help me?

Wax worms are high in fat and cholesterol, and offer little in the nutritional area also. I would not recommend using wax worms as the main staple for a diet of a reptile. I only feed my Leos wax worms when my females are gravid or after they have laid their clutches. I also would not feed wax worms as the main staple to my skink. As an occasional treat, maybe but definetly not as a staple. That is my personal opinion as I would not want to see my skink end up obese.

ProCreationReptiles is definitely right. The food chart on BTS.net, most agree, is outdated and needs a lot of updating which some of them are working on (theres a thread about this now in the OT section). I wouldn’t use wax worms as a staple died, more of a treat. The protein portion of their died should consist of things like butterworms, wet dog or cat food, hornworms, silkworms, chicken, beef, egg (I prefer to cook the last three but I know others who don’t... I’m just a little cautious about it). Variety is best so switching it up and keeping it interesting is definitely best. Basically whatever meat you have with dinner (for the most part and without seasoning) can be added in with their veggies in addition to worms. My diet for my skinks typically is wellness brand or blue buffalo brad wet cat food/chicken/beef with the veggies and then I feed the worms in between meals as treats. But you can vary it up so long as you have the right protein ratios.

Hope that helps!
