 Odd hammy behavior...

Hey again! :)

Gingie’s all settled down in her cage again, and she’s been more personable and friendly than ever!

There is only one thing about her that is bothering me - recently Ginger has been displaying some different behavior...she loves to run around my lap, it’s one of the things she enjoys doing most. Lately, she has been convulsing, twitching a jerking abnormally, and not to loud noises or quick movements. She just runs around on my lap, but I can feel her jerking every so often. Sometimes the jerking is visible. I have read that convulsion in hamsters is often a sign of fear...but she was on my lap, and as I mentioned, she absolutely loves to be there.

She has never displayed this behavior before, so it’s bothering me a little. Does anyone have any idea what might be happening? Could it have something to do with the fact that she just came back after being loose for so long?

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps. :)

It has only been two days since you found her after being lost in the house for several days . I would not be holding her at all. Give her a week or so to get use to her cage and calm down before you start handling her again. You may think that she likes running around on your lap when it may actually be that shes stressed and afraid . I would leave her alone and see if she jerks while in the cage .

Good point....although she has stopped displaying that behavior now. I think she was a little uneasy....I never thought about her getting used to her cage again...the first thing she did when I got home though was get into her ball, though. Thanks for the advice...
