 Rat massacre! D:

My rat (the one that has no foot) has become bloodthirsty. ><
We put him in a cage at my boyfriend’s apartment, not realizing that we still had two baby mice in that cage. Reishaun got his first taste of blood there. Then, last night... I was keeping the two best friends, Reishaun and Dobby together. All of last night, I heard running around, rats screaming and a bunch of creepy noises, now that I think back on it. I thought it was Vincent beating up the new rat I got, Earl. I punished Vincent and threw him into a ten gallon for the night, thinking that it would stop the noise. I didn’t think to look into the other two of my rat cages since this took place in a different cage than Vincent was in. I woke up in the morning, thinking about how I had to clean my gerbil, hamster and rat cages along with feeding my snakes and my skink. My sister and I took Butters, Rex, Vincent, Earl and Jack out of the biggest cage, moved the two females to another room, took the formerly injured Gin (who had his balls ripped apart by Vincent not too long ago) and stuck him with the other males in the bath tub, then looked into the smaller male cage. My sister looked at Reishaun, saying the first thought that came to her mind was "this rat looks weird and his coloration has definitely changed since the last time I saw him." Ammeratsu (my sister) looked really surprised and said "Reishaun is bleeding from his paws and his chin." I came over, a bit confused and looked down and noticed the hairless dead. I took a closer look and Dobby’s insides were eaten out for the most part, a rib was sticking out of his skin and there was a pile of guts behind him. His eyes were closed and his hands were up close to his face. I then took a closer look and Reishaun and realized that he looked just... weird. The night before, my mom came in to play with her rat since she boards her in my room. She decided to look over at Reishaun and Dobby’s cage. She made a note that Dobby was really ugly and then said; "Reishaun looks weird. He looks sortof like a weasel." And she was right, he sortof does. His face is really long and oddly shaped, his body is balled up and he has puffed up fur.... but it’s not rex fur because my mom’s rat is a rex and he looks nothing like that. The blaze on his face is a little bit different from former pictures and his fur is less gray. I’ll have to show you before and after pictures once I get ahold of a camera. And the rat just looks kindof.... crazed. The look on his face and the way he stands and stares at you. He was accidentally born from one of my other rats, Link, who went crazy. Link died a while ago of an unknown cause.

So... that’s my story. And the sad thing is, Reishaun and Dobby were best friends before. They always got along so well.

How in the world do you not know that there are mice in the cage ? That’s a bunch of BS. I do not know if this truly happened or if you posted this sad story to get attention but either way I do not think you should be allowed to own any pets in my opinion. You DO NOT punish an animal by throwing them into a 10 gallon aquarium. You are sadistic and sick !

Baby mice are small. We were unaware because they were buried under the bedding. We just lost track of what was in there. =)

And this really did happen. I’m her sister, and it happened exactly like said. Both of us care deeply about rats and would never post something so cruel and sad for attention.

Aruchu put Vincent in a ten gallon because she wasn’t sure if he would hurt the other rats. In the past, he did tear another rat’s testicles, so she was just looking out for her other rats. She only put him in there for the night so she could watch him the next day with the other rats.

Don’t you think you’re being a little cruel to Aruchu? She had a devastating and horrible thing happen to a rat she really cares about, and all you do is criticize her for something so irrelevant? She’s devastated by the event, and I think you’re completely wrong to get angry at someone who just had their beloved pet die.

xD Do you want pictures of my massacred hairless?
I took one on my cell phone to show my boyfriend what his beloved Raiquen’s baby did to one of my rats.
As for the mice, well... it was pretty irresponsible. I fully agree. But we were in a hurry and put him in one of the millions of ten gallons in my boyfriend’s apartment that had water, food and decently clean bedding while we went out and took Gin to the vet. Yes, again, I know... it was irresponsible. Mistakes happen once in a while. They were adolescent feeder mice... a bit hard to see sometimes. Especially in gray Carefresh bedding.
As for putting Vince in the ten gallon for the night... o__o it was the only available space I had and I didn’t want him to kill anyone while I was asleep.

I don’t know why I’d post something like this for attention. If I wanted attention I’d say, ’lol my hamster died, feel bad for me.’

Reishaun was put down today. : (
For some reason, he started to die this morning and it seemed like he was suffering.
His eyes were caving in and stuff.
RIP Reishaun?

WHY?

This wasn’t her fault! Would you expect your formerly gentle rat to randomly kill another?

He didn’t die from sickness, either. His father had a neurological disorder and it was transfered to him. The disorder killed his father in the same way.

Why shouldn’t she be allowed to own pets? Because she put a rat in a ten gallon for ONE night?

Skullkeeper has a point that if you are breeding mice than you should know that they hide their babies underneath the bedding, but I do not think that the 10 gallon tank was a big deal for one night.

Anyways I am not trying to start an argument so sorry for your loss.

First -anyone with any sense would quarantine a new rat for at least several weeks before placing it in with their existing rat.

Second -you would introduced them slowly . You would not expect them to get along right off the bat .

Third -you would watch them closely and separate them immediately if there were any signs of aggression .Not leave the room and wait until you hear them fighting then separate them.

Fourth - you would NEVER place a rat in a cage that you had other animals in with out completely disinfecting it first , completely changing the substrate , food and water .There is absolutely NO excuse for putting a rat in a cage with two mice . If she had bothered to disinfect and clean the cage it would never have happened !

Fifth- it is simply irresponsible for some one to have so many pets that they can not provide the proper enclosures for each that is needed . Putting the rat in a 10 gallon aquarium is cruel. They should NEVER be put into any size aquarium. They need proper ventilating.

THIS PERSON HAS NO BUSINESS OWNING AWAY PETS WHAT SO EVER ! NOW I AM YELLING !

I don’t know why you are yelling at me I usually agree with your opinions ,but I don’t post on much because certain people on here think that it is wrong to have your own opinion. I didn’t know that it was a bad thing to keep a rat in a aquarium for one night.(I knew about the poor ventilation though)

So sorry for starting something!!!!!!

Heh.
Reishaun and Dobby lived together for a few months.
Don’t give me that.

Anyway.
Why can’t I try out my own stuff and care for animals the way I want to as long as they’re getting the proper care necessary? I take VERY good care of my animals... mistakes happen. It was unfortunate, maybe some irresponsibility took place but honestly... no use dwelling on it. Rats are capable of going mentally insane as well as humans. It happens. Reishaun was formerly very gentle, his father had a genetic condition that he died from a while after we bred him... meaning we didn’t know he had a genetic condition considering we got him from a breeder.

Eh.
Honestly, I think I’m entitled to my own opinions and not every thread has to turn into a fight. Why should it?

I’m probably more knowledgeable than you are, anyway. XD I own many animals... I’ve had hardly any die and any mistakes that happen are learned from and precautions are taken so that it does not ever happen again. My injured or sick animals get treated right away, quarantined in one of the couple special wired cages/aquariums I have for different species. Hell, even my fish get put in a separate fish tank with filtering and heating devices as I always keep this tank cycling so that it’s safe to put the fish in.
I’m a rat breeder.... I take pride in how I care for my rats. Please don’t tell me otherwise.
I’m sorry for putting Vince into a ten gallon for literally two hours, but I think he was fine. He went to sleep when I put him in and he was asleep when I came back to take him out and clean out his former cage.
If you want, I’ll take a picture of each and every set up and you can tell me ALL that’s wrong with my three rat cages, my gerbil, hamster, green tree python, corn snake, fish tank and if you want... tell me that I’m caring for my dogs, cat and horse wrong while your at it.
I must be such a terrible owner, dedicating my life to these animals.

You posted a horrible post making a point by saying Rat Massacre ! You evidently think the whole thing is funny or you and your sibling simply do not care what happens to your pets . I feel very sorry for them . You not only do not house them properly but then put a rat in a cage to kill baby mice . I do not see how that was an accident .Then you come here and write a graphic post describing the whole thing and expect me to sympathize with you ?

You get no sympathy from me whats so ever . I hope Doug removes the entire thread .
Sure you can both treat your pets as inhumanly as you want. I truly believe that what you send out into the world comes back to you three fold .

I would suggest everyone ignore and/or report them . I know I will not spend another moment with this thread , it sickens me .

DO NOT tell me that I don’t care for my pets. I DEEPLY care for every single one of them. I was NOT there for the baby mouse thing, the rats were not in MY ROOM when this happened.

Why are you attacking me? I did NOT do anything wrong. >< You have NO knowledge whatsoever about my pets and their care. Plus, I came onto this forum and asked what to do to help my injured gerbil. That shows I do care. I did everything ever KNOWLEDGEABLE person told me to do. You just gave me the wrong advise. If you’re supposedly a nurse like you say, wouldn’t you be giving out the right advice about medicine(Betadine is not poisonous to use on a gerbil)?

Don’t you have anything better to do then attack kids over the internet?

Sorry for the third post, but another thing I missed.

They are housed perfectly, thanks. Aruchu’s rats are in a ten gallon WITH A CAGE TOPPER(This is not meant to be overlooked). It’s a three story wire cage topper. She has another wire cage, as well. =)

Your idea of caring and mine are defiantly completely different .

Anyone can look back on your posts and see you have a long history of sick, injured , dying and dead pets .

You can state any excuses you want but they are simply excuses . You should never have put a rat into a cage that had mice in it without cleaning and disinfecting it first . I wonder just how long where the baby mice in there anyways ? If they even had food , water or a clean cage ? If it was then you would have known that there were still mice in that cage .

Don’t worry ,say what you want . This is my last post on this thread . I would just like to know where your parents are ?And why they do not monitor their children and make sure that they are mature enough and capable of taking good care of their pets ? Sounds like very irresponsible parents to buy pets for their kids and not help look after them.
