They are wonderful little pets, but are definitely a step up as far as care goes from hamsters, gerbils, rats, etc. Their fur is like that of a chinchilla or gerbil, so they need to take dust baths to keep it healthy. You should wash your hands before handling to reduce the amount of oils your skin puts in their delicate fur. They live around 6-8 years or so, slightly less than the lifespan of a guinea pig or rabbit. Let me know where you live and I can search for some rescues/breeders in your area. Make sure they are licensed before you buy or adopt. |

you have to be really careful of their feeding. mine were all brothers that were line bred because the woman didn’t know how to sex them and she fed them chinchilla food with molasses as an ingredient and raisins. so i got chubbs with diabetes. |
