 Is my GP pregnant?

I purchased a three month old guinea pig from a local farm about 3 weeks ago. When I first bought her they said she has a slight belly and might be pregnant. I decided to get here anyways as a companion for another guinea pig I bought from the same farm a week earlier. That did not work well as I found out my first guinea pig was male and I ended up giving him to a friend. Now I have my possibly pregnant guinea pig, Cleo, as well as her cage mate, Abby, that I bought from Petco(The only reason for this was because the farm’s ’mothers’ were not due for a while, and I did not look into a local shelter until just a couple days ago). She has been spending most of her days in her hidey-house and drags most of her food into the house as well. She can also be somewhat aggressive to my other GP Abby at times and she hates to be picked up. Below are some pictures of my guinea pigs (Sorry I may put some pictures not from my cell phone camera up soon).

Here is a picture of Abby...

Sounds from her behavior that she probably is, and since you’re going to need to take her to a vet anyway to get checked out, I would take her now and maybe get his advice and an ultrasound if he can do that on a small animal...
In the meantime, you’ll need to separate Abby and Cleo in separate cages.
Good luck,

 Is my GP pregnant?

yes she is preg, the last pic of her confirmed it in my eyes. if you gently hold your fingers just taking the weight either side of her tummy, you should be able to feel the little ones kicking about by now,she looks big enough. also if you put your ear to her side you can usually hear them grinding their teeth too. to check how far off she is from birthing, sit her sideways on your lap, gently place one finger between her back legs, just in front of her genitals, you wil feel a hard boney lump, in the middle, this bump will expand and part ready for birth, when its approx 1 finger tip width between the bones she will more than likely birth within 24-48 hours. she can be left with the other sow who may or may not help her out with cleaning the babies etc. any agression from mum will be her being uncomfortable, its normal, nothing to worry about, and the other sow will realise when to leave her be. once the babies are born they can be handled as soon as they are dry, mum will not abandon them, eat them or anything else, they can be sexed from birth, well i have always been able to, and have never got one wrong. they will usually start to nibble at hay etc within a few hours of birth, but will suckle from mum for a few weeks too. any boars should be removed from mum and sisters at 3 weeks old at the latest, they can impregnate a sow at this very young age, and they dont need mums milk after this age, though they shouldnt be rehomed until at least 6 weeks old so you know they are growing well and are strong and healthy. good luck, hope it goes well.

 Is my GP pregnant?

Thanks for the comments. Futurevet, I am thinking of taking her to a vet. I’ll have to call around. However I don’t really see the need to seperate them as their cage has adequate space(7 sq ft) and I haven’t seen anything that genuinely made me worry about my younger gp safety.

Also I placed and order for some oxbow pellets for my gps because up until this point I have been feeding them Hertz pellets and they are alfalfa based(which technically wouldn’t be a problem for my young gps yet) and apparently filled with additives.

I went to the farm again today to look at their mothers and they are much bigger than mine... Maybe Cleo will have a small litter. Anyways, I put my ear to her side today and I can definitely hear grinding. How far into the pregnancy is it before you can normally hear grinding, do you know?

have you felt the babies move at all? once you feel them move its about 2 weeks to delivery, not sure at what gestation you can hear the grinding but i always heard mine when the mums used to sit on my shoulders while i watched tv! never paid much attention to how far along they were as i have always gone by teh 2 weeks til birth babies move 2 days til birth fingers width between pelvic bones, give or take a day or 2 on each.

 Is my GP pregnant?

She had only one baby, born yesterday, September 17th. I am guessing she gave birth to it at night, although I did not even notice the baby until after school yesterday. It must have been hiding in the house with the mother the whole time until I noticed it. Anyways here are some pictures.

And here is a picture of the mom on September 16th, taken with my phone...

 Is my GP pregnant?

I gave Cleo and Abby to the farm today as all their boy cages were full. Today he is exactly three weeks old. I haven’t seen him nursing from the mother in the past week at all, and he is eating by himself and popcorns all around the cage. He is really big and I will get some pictures of him up later this week!
