pour betty, today she seemed fine then when i get home she had exploded everywhere, and it was awefully. i think she got gas from the carrots. i don’t know and the sicker part of it was the other mouse was eating her.

That’s horrible . I never feed any of my rat carrots but I did not think that they would cause gas. What else did you feed her ? What makes you think she exploded rather than the other mouse is a cannibal ?

There are a lot of mice that will eat other mice especially if they have babies for the first time .

i say it cause i found guts all over the glass and blood was everywhere, my other female was just sitting in the same spot as the body and eating what was left of the head, i only gave them carrots and mouse food.

Yuk! I would keep an eye on the mouse that was eating the dead one , just in case .And I wouldn’t feed carrots any more . Carrots and corn are basically sugar and not very good for them anyways . I just have my doubts that they caused so much gas that the mouse exploded .

well i was talking to other people that i work with and apparently its not uncommon. and i found out that a little kid that comes over gave them carbonated water which caused them to blow up cause the other one died to and the kid fessed up to it. Im thinking no more mice while the kid still has to come over.

I agree with Skullkeeper. Keep an eye on the mouse and stick to a solid consistent diet at least for now.

Good luck! And sorry for your loss : (

The carbonated water could have done it . But what ever caused it the mouse that was eating him may kill a cage mate . Watch him very closely for any aggression towards cage mates . If he starts chasing the others remove him and put him in his own cage .
