 Otis Has a Swollen Belly?

Just recently i noticed my 4 year old hamster has a swollen belly like to touch it, it feels like it is full of air, he is eating and pooping, drinking everything normal but he belly has yet to go down what could possibly be wrong with him is there something i could do to help him?

Sounds like it could be a tumor, especially if he’s four years old. The kindest thing to do is keep him as comfortable as possible as long as he is happy and has a good quality of life. He may need to be put to sleep if he becomes unhappy. It would be cruel in my opinion to put him through surgery at that age for a tumor that will probably just come right back.

It is a good idea to take him to a vet now anyway to make sure it is a tumor and get some more information about it, etc.

Good luck.

A tumor is usually hard to the touch . what are you feeding him? I wonder if he bloated from either the foods he is eating or if it could be worms ? Is his stools normal looking ? Four years old is old . So I don’t think there is much you can do either way except change the diet if need be .

 Otis Has a Swollen Belly?

There are no small animal vets here, and i don’t think my parents would be willing to pay the 50 dollar vet visit is there where. So thats outta the question. but here more info.

Food-Hartz Hamster and Gerbil diet, i also give them timothy hay on occasions.

Stool-normal he eat and drink fine as well.

I really don’t know how old he is I’ve had him for 4 years and the place i got him said some lady dropped them off when she no longer wanted them so they could be older then even 4. His belly is not hard to the touch it just fills like your cheeks would feel if you filled them with air and held it. I have not given them anything thing differnt for food. There is another hammy in with him and that hamster feels normal everything thing. so it’s just one hamster out of two?

I would stop feeding the hay for awhile and see if it helps . Just feed the hamster food .

I am not saying this is what it is ( I hope I am wrong ) but our dog developed heart problems . Right before she died she started drinking a lot of water . She became bloated and started coughing a lot . Soon after she died from heart failure . Hes an old man so prepare your self just in case . You must take very good care of your hamsters to have them live that long .
