I’ve been thinking
I’m thinking about getting a better cage for some of them. Would anyone care to post their set-ups and give me some tips? My rat are in pretty decent living condition, but I think more space would be nicer. Right now, my best set up is an extra large "Super Pet" cage, I think. It has a blue bottom. Bought it from the local pet store. Anyway. Suggestions? |

Quality Cage Co. and Martin’s Cage Co. are both excellent companies. They have sturdy, sensible cages that give rats lots of levels and space to move. I have the Martin’s Sky Scraper (the 2nd largest one) and I LOVE it!!

I didn’t mean for this to turn into anything negative. Anyway. Thanks for the information. And I take care of all of my pets, Skullkeeper. xD I’ve hardly ever had an animal die. Just this weekend, really. And one other rat a looong time ago. |

Funny I have been at Repticzone for years and have never had a problem with other members like on this forum. Many of the posters here are immature and enjoy starting arguments for arguments sake . It takes away from the purpose of these forums . The purpose of this forum is not to agree with poor husbandry methods in order to make new friends . It is to give good advice and tell people if they need to make changes in order to have a healthy pet .I am not here to win a popularity contest like some of the teens here . If you read some of the other posts and other forums I am not the only one that feels this way . It is the immature people that do most of the arguing and attaching . Dragon Girl-GROW UP! |

Things are the way they are and with this many members, nothing is changing. Dragongirl is fine in the way she handles things, I think. Just like any other teen, she doesn’t always know how to deal with attacks, especially some of the ones you present. Most of us on the small animal forum probably vary from age thirteen to twenty... that’s all still FAIRLY young and you can’t expect too, too much out of us. We’re all still very knowledgable of our pets and we all also make mistakes. I think you probably have made mistakes in your life time of owning pets, as well. Ya know? |

Of coarse you think she handles things well. She has not confronted you about you not being able to take proper care of your pets . You admitted to me in your personal message that you have little time with going to school and working . I did not think that you are intentionally mistreating your pets but after that "Massacre post " I am not 100% sure .if you do not have the time to take good care of them you should find some new homes . They deserve to be properly cared for . Not put into small dirty cages as a punishment for fighting which was your fault to begin with, not the rats or end up eaten from your carelessness . Of coarse you side with Dragon girl , she says what you want to hear. I have no tolerance for anyone that abuses or neglects animals .You may not have intentionally abused the mice and rat but it defiantly was a case of neglect.I will not condone that kind of behavior just to make a friend . |

If you can’t help her give her animals a better life, shut your mouth! I would never say something untrue or idiotic to "make a friend". Have I ever done that with you or anyone else? No! She felt really bad about what happened, and accidents happen. You haven’t been on this forum for very long and you have no right to pass judgement on how everyone treats their animals when you don’t know them and know nothing about them. I know that these kids take good care of their animals, and here they are trying to buy them better cages and all you can do is yell at them? Why not suggest a good quality, large, spacious cage that they could buy for their pets to make their lives better? How are you helping? |

It’s similar to Dragongirl’s. : D It’s called Rat Manor at Pet Co... bought it from the local pet store, Clark’s, though. : ) My rats are happy, it seems. Though Vincent still doesn’t get along with Earl and Gin. I guess I have to slowly introduce him. |

I have two cages for males, so he lives alone at the moment. Vincent is a rescue from a friend who knew absolutely nothing about rats... she kept him on cedar bedding in a tiny hamster cage where he could hardly turn around and he fend him only hamster and gerbil seed. For a while, he was kept with my third rat, Link but she ended up giving him to me when he died a few months later... he’s also the father of Reishaun. Vincent likes three of my males but he absolutely HATES the other three. I’ll try your suggestion, thanks. : ) If he still doesn’t get along I’ll probably give him one of the three that he really gets along with. |
