 Another squirrel-this time adult

well just to cut it short here’s what happened.
i was checking the rat trap(the touch-snap-kill kind)

Link
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and i definitly didn’t target this species but i guess it wandered too far into the grass by the smell of peanut butter for the rats and...
so i have it in a very large parrot cage.aspen bedding as substrate,a hide, branch, vines, large water bowl, and 2 food bowls.
its head seems to be a bit crooked, it might be a bit brain damaged and the fur on part of its tail is missing. it runs/walks/jumps limp but is getting better. i can hold it no problem,no biting(other than alot of squirming). we are taking it to the vet tomarrow.
i won’t let it wild because i have already seen hawks almost kill squirrels in this area.it would be like a sitting duck.
so in the mean time i have been leaving mouse food in its food dishes and it has that giant water bowl.
what should i really feed it? should i get dandilions, mushrooms, collared greens, tree bark, shoots, etc for it from outside or feed it any special medication?
here’s is its cage and the squirrel itself-

It looks like it probably has neurological damage, maybe something with it’s spinal cord from the trap. Try not to handle it too much, in the video it looks terrified, it just can’t move well enough to really get away. Take it to the vet definately, but mostly I would suggest keeping it in a dark, quiet area and keeping contact very quick and minimal (feeding, cleaning cage, etc). If it does get better, you can release it back. Since it is an adult, socialization doesn’t really seem too likely, which is why it would be best if you could just rehabilitate it and set it free again...but I guess you’ll have to wait for what the vet thinks is possible.

Put food close to him so he doesn’t have to try very hard to get to it. Water too. A really shallow bowl of it. Poor thing...doesn’t look good at all. Just leave him be. You should cover the cage with something so he’s not so scared. And keep it quiet.

You shouldn’t worry too much about it not eating since you’re taking it to the vet. If there is any internal damage feeding could do bad to it.

I would put it out of it’s misery . It will not thrive or be happy caged . I would not put the rat trap or rat poison out in the same area unless you want to catch and kill more squirrels
