 Can you clip a rat’s claws?

They’re so sharp, it’s hard to give them baths or even hold them. Is there a way?

you can if you’re careful and good at moving quickly yet safely. a vet can also do it. and i have read about putting a brick in the cage under the bottle so they will file them. mine all keep their own nails pretty short.

I use a nail file/emery board. It’s easier than clipping, and it’s harder to hurt them. :)

I tried he file, but it’s soo hard. My rats wriggle and struggle constantly and their nails are so long it takes a really long time to file them down.

hehe. maybe because it’s probably cool? my guys LOVE their chinchillers. is it possible to have someone else hold them while you file or vice versa?

My dad clips my rat’s nails while I hold them and pet them. It’s actually the back ones that are hard to do. You’d want to file the back nails. I usually just don’t do anything with them though.
