Allergic to my rats????

Ok I was wondering is there anything I can do so,that I don’t react to them????whenever I hold them there nails and fur makes me ichy.

idk I haven’t been holding them since I just started being allergic to them wasn’t when I got them.I feel bad having them in a cage all the time and my mom doesn’t wanna get rid of them.

I actually think I’m slightly allergic to my rabbit, ever since I’ve had her I’ve been sneezing a lot more, and it gets worse when I’m doing stuff with her cage, like cleaning (a necessary evil lol)
But she’s cute so I deal with it ;)

are you allergic to her? or the hay? or maybe the bedding? i am allergic to aspen and it makes me sneeze a lot but my animals are allergic to carefresh and not aspen so i use it.

When ever I used to work at a pet store I would sneeze all the time around certain animals but I am not allergic to them. It could just be that when you hold them there little hairs get in your nose which will make you sneeze.

So you are fine when you are not holding her??
To test the bedding take some new bedding out and rub it on your skin. If you get itchy you know it’s that. Although it could be both. Have you tried giving her a bath?

I have three and they are all boys never said that before just wanted to.I am fine when I’m not holding them and then when I go to clean there cage or pick them up I get ichy.Maybe the bedding???I use carefresh what else could I use???Yah I have given them a bath before I think there nails make me ichy or something.

If it’s the nails making you ichy, it may not be allergies. The rats may have bacterias on their nails, and when they break the skin with them, viola’, ichy red skin. A small animal vet should be able to tell you if they have the bacteria on their nails. A friend of mine had that happen to her. The vet gave her something to treat the rats, and it doesn’t happen any more.

So what are you worried about?? Are you scared something will happen...
I’m thinking if you’re getting like that when your cleaning their cage it could be the bedding. But do you still feel itchy after the bath??
